Penny Lick Ice Cream

Penny Lick Ice Cream

When I was a kid, there were some stompy glasses with a very shallow cup which dated from the nineteen century sitting on my grandmothers dining room shelves. She explained they were from the time when ice cream was a frantically exotic treat for high days and holidays. You would pay your penny for a little lick of ice cream that was served in a pressed glass vessel.  An icy molded pedestal, for a morsel of deliciousness, the perfect lick size for experiencing the complex wonders of something like onion or wasabi ice cream.
